Marco Bezzecchi won the 2026 Indonesian Grand Prix MotoGP, giving Aprilia Racing a timely result in the MotoGP title battle. The Italian took the lead from pole-sitter Raul Fernandez on Lap 19 of the 27-lap race and pulled clear to win by more than four seconds. The victory ended Bezzecchi’s winless run since the Italian Grand Prix earlier this season and kept his championship hopes alive. Jorge Martin finished third and moved back to the top of the standings, leaving Marc Marquez just two points behind after the Ducati rider came home sixth.

MotoGP: Fernandez leads the opening laps

Trackhouse Racing Aprilia rider Fernandez made the most of pole position when the lights went out, holding the lead ahead of Bezzecchi. Fernandez was also racing with a broken finger that he normally uses to brake. He kept Bezzecchi behind for several laps, but the pressure continued to build as the race progressed. Bezzecchi stayed close rather than forcing an early move. Once he moved ahead, the Italian was able to establish a gap and manage the remaining laps without losing control of the lead.

MotoGP: Martin and Marquez Fight for Position

Further back, Martin worked his way through the field during the opening stages. The factory Aprilia rider passed Ducati’s Marquez to take third place, putting himself in a position to collect important points in the championship. Pedro Acosta also challenged Marquez, and the pair exchanged places as they worked to manage their front tyre pressures. Marquez eventually finished sixth, limiting his points haul on a day when Martin made up ground in the title standings.

MotoGP: Bezzecchi Makes His Move on Lap 19

The key moment arrived on Lap 19, when Bezzecchi overtook Fernandez and took control of the race. He quickly opened a gap and crossed the line more than four seconds ahead of the Spaniard. Fernandez secured second place despite his injury, while Martin completed the podium. The result gave Martin 16 points and lifted his championship total to 355. Marquez has 353 points in second, so the gap between the two leading contenders is only two points. Bezzecchi remains 46 points behind Martin, but his Indonesian win keeps him in contention.

MotoGP Title Fight Heads to Australia

The championship battle now moves towards the next round at Phillip Island, Australia, with Martin holding a narrow advantage over Marquez. Their two-point margin leaves little room for error, and every position could matter as the season approaches its closing stages. Bezzecchi will arrive at the next round with renewed momentum after converting his pace into a race win.

His result in Indonesia does not erase the points deficit, but it gives Aprilia another strong outcome and keeps pressure on the riders ahead. Fernandez, meanwhile, can take confidence from securing second despite competing with a broken finger. Indonesia has reshaped the championship picture without settling it. Martin leads, Marquez remains close, and Bezzecchi has returned to winning form at a crucial point in the season.
