Cricket: India and Pakistan will face off in the men's cricket gold-medal match at the 2026 Asian Games on Saturday 3 October. This will see one of world cricket's most well-known rivalries take to the continent for the first time as the final will be played at Korogi Sports Park in Nisshin, Japan - a ground that has already begun to show signs of favouring slower bowlers and inconsistent bounce. India's latest game saw them beat Sri Lanka by 124 runs, while Pakistan booked their spot in the final by defeating Bangladesh by six wickets in a semi-final, which was reduced to rain. The weather has already had an impact on the competition, so the match conditions in Japan are another factor to keep an eye on before the coin goes up in the air.

India vs Pakistan Final Pitch Report
The Korogi Sports Park pitch has been a bouncy surface for the batters to dominate. Moisture under the surface and the conditions at Nisshin have led to a bit of inconsistent bounce, this way giving the bowlers a chance to keep themselves involved with the game even with quality players on the batting team. Spin may once more be decisive in the final. India have a number of different spin options in Axar Patel, Washington Sundar or Ravi Bishnoi, while Abhishek Sharma can add to the spinning options provided there is enough turn in the pitch. Jasprit Bumrah is obviously a much more difficult proposition as he tends to be effective regardless of the pitch.
Pakistan also has a very strong spin combination. Abrar Ahmed and Sufyan MukiM are expected to fulfil a large share of the middle overs load, with Saim Ayub and Arafat Minhas offering additional support. The middle overs in this scenario could turn out to be the turning point of the match. If the pitch continues to help the spinners and produce inconsistent bounce, this could turn out to be the team that accommodates the spinners better and runs away with the final.
India vs Pakistan: Players to Watch
India have brought a strong squad to Japan, including several established T20 players. Shreyas Iyer will lead the side, with Sanju Samson, Ishan Kishan, Tilak Varma, Abhishek Sharma, Shivam Dube and Vaibhav Sooryavanshi among the batting options. Kishan's unbeaten 80 in the semi-final gives him momentum heading into the final. Bumrah will also be central to India's plans after making an immediate impact against Sri Lanka by taking two wickets in the opening over.
Pakistan will look towards captain Sahibzada Farhan, Saim Ayub, Hasan Nawaz and Abdul Samad with the bat. Their bowling attack has several spin options, which could become particularly useful if the Korogi surface behaves in a similar manner to the semi-final.
What Batters Can Expect?
The surface has not totally eliminated stroke play. They demonstrated in the semi-final against Sri Lanka that runs can be scored at a reasonable rate in these types of conditions. Ishan Kishan hit 80 not out from 46, and Vaibhav Sooryavanshi scored 38 from 21 as India made 169 for 7 in their 20 overs. Once again, India bowled Sri Lanka out for just 45 as Bumrah, Axar, and Abhishek took two wickets each.
The semi-final of Pakistan was very different as showers shortened the match to 13 overs each. Bangladesh scored 111 for 7 before the match was brought to an end in the 14th over as Pakistan progressed with six wickets in hand. Abdul Samad scored 30 off 15 to guide Pakistan to the finish, while Sufyan Moqim took three wickets. These also explain why this final may not just be about the bigger batting names. The conditions can keep a chasing side under pressure if wickets fall in the middle overs.

The men's cricket final will take place at Korogi Sports Park in Nisshin on Saturday, October 3. The match is scheduled to begin at 10:00 am IST, with India looking to retain the Asian Games men's cricket gold medal after winning the title in Hangzhou in 2023. Pakistan will be aiming to finish the competition with gold after reaching the final through a rain-affected knockout stage.
