Indian racer Ary Bansal will return to the Macau Grand Prix in November, stepping up from Formula 4 to the FIA Formula Regional (FR) World Cup with Italian team Trident. The 16-year-old is set to be the youngest driver on the 2026 grid, competing at the Guia Circuit from 19 to 22 November. Bansal gets another chance to test himself against international rivals, this time in a higher category.

Ary Bansal steps up with Trident
Macau will be Ary Bansal’s second consecutive appearance at the street circuit. He raced in the FIA Formula 4 World Cup in 2025 and finished fifth. This year, he will compete in Formula Regional machinery, a step above F4 in the single-seater pathway. The category can lead towards Formula 3 and Formula 1. The FR World Cup is not an F1 championship, but it brings together drivers from several regional series. Trident has selected Bansal alongside Polish driver Tymek Kucharczyk. The Italian outfit is among 13 teams confirmed for the 2026 FR World Cup, which will use the new-generation Tatuus T 326 car during the 73rd Macau Grand Prix.
Ary Bansal - A strong record in junior racing
Ary Bansal arrives after strong results across junior categories. In 2025, he won the GB4 Championship with Elite Motorsport, scoring 402 points, four victories and 11 podium finishes. He also claimed the Challenge Cup in the British F4 Championship with Fortec Motorsport. In 2026, Bansal finished third overall in the Formula Winter Series and currently holds third place in the Italian F4 Championship. He has recorded two wins and six podium finishes in the Italian series, which attracts an international field.
Those results have established him as one of India’s emerging F1 prospects, but Macau presents a different test. Drivers must balance speed and control around a street circuit where mistakes can be costly.
What Macau means for his progress
The FIA FR World Cup runs from 19 to 22 November. The Guia Circuit measures 6.120 kilometres and features tight street sections and fast corners. For drivers targeting Formula 1, Macau offers experience in a high-pressure setting. F1 is a long-term goal, but one result cannot guarantee progression. Bansal’s task is to adapt to the Formula Regional car and make the most of his opportunity with Trident. Speaking ahead of the event, Ary Bansal said the circuit was one of his favourite tracks and that representing India made the occasion special.

The race is part of a development route for drivers hoping to reach Formula 1, where experience matters. Formula Regional sits between Formula 4 and Formula 3, giving racers a chance to show consistency before moving up. Macau is a standalone World Cup, not a season-long championship, so preparation and execution are important. Formula 1 teams monitor junior categories, but selection depends on results, funding, testing, and progression. Bansal must focus on sessions rather than the attention surrounding his age.
