India began its New Zealand tour with a chase that went to the final over in yesterday's India Vs New Zealand match. At Hagley Oval in Christchurch on Thursday, the visitors hunted down 226 to beat New Zealand by four wickets, with two balls left. The result gave Shreyas Iyer’s side a 1-0 lead in the India and New Zealand series, but victory was not straightforward. India vs New Zealand delivered big hitting, a middle-order wobble and a finish that asked Naman Dhir to keep his nerve. The win mattered, but 225 was not enough.

India Vs New Zealand: Glenn Phillips Leads New Zealand’s Charge
Asked to bat first, New Zealand finished on 225 for four, their highest T20I total against India on home soil. Finn Allen made 45 from 24 balls, and Tim Seifert added 24. Daryl Mitchell contributed 28 before Glenn Phillips took charge, striking an unbeaten 82 from 40 deliveries, with eight fours and three sixes. Phillips shared a 73-run stand with Bevon Jacobs, who scored 31 off 16 balls. The partnership pushed India onto the back foot in the closing overs. The Indian attack struggled to contain the scoring, with all five bowlers used conceding at least 40 runs. Bhuvneshwar Kumar, returning to T20 internationals after nearly four years, went wicketless for 49. Mayank Yadav, Arshdeep Singh and Axar Patel took one wicket each.
India Vs New Zealand: Samson Gives India a Flying Start
The chase looked manageable because Sanju Samson and Abhishek Sharma attacked from the outset. Their opening stand brought 93 runs in fewer than six overs. Samson struck 67 from 33 balls, putting the required rate within reach. Abhishek made 29 off 12 deliveries before Michael Bracewell dismissed him near the end of the powerplay. India’s momentum faded quickly. Samson departed, and Tilak Varma and Ishan Kishan followed in successive overs. The cluster of wickets turned a chase that had seemed under control into a tense calculation. India vs New Zealand was suddenly back in the balance, and the middle order had to rebuild without letting the required run rate run away.

India Vs New Zealand: Iyer and Dhir Hold Their Nerve
Shreyas Iyer steadied the innings with 42 from 28 balls, working with Axar Patel and Naman Dhir to keep India in touch. Iyer fell in the 19th over, leaving Dhir to finish the job. Dhir remained unbeaten on 42 and sealed the contest with a six off the fourth ball of the final over. India reached 226 for six, winning with two balls remaining. The result gives India an early lead, but India new zealand must improve its bowling. New Zealand scored freely through the middle and death overs. India and New Zealand meet again in Christchurch on Saturday, leaving Iyer’s team little time to address those concerns. India vs New Zealand now moves to Saturday’s second match on Saturday. India and New Zealand fans will watch for a response, while India and New Zealand have adjustments to make. India and New Zealand supporters will hope India and New Zealand can turn their strong batting into a win.
